What is ekadasi?

Ekadasi also speaked as ekadoshi, ekadashi. It comes twice in Hindu calendar month, it comes on 11th lunar day referred as 11th tithi of Hindu month. It is an auspicious day and generally, devotee observes fast on this day.



Devotees of lord Vishnu observe Ekadasi fasting to seek blessing of lord vishnu. In general, the devotee has strictly followed some rules of Ekadsi fasting rules, devotees take a vegetarian meal before fasting day. Devotees keep strict fast on Ekadasi and pray lord Vishnu on their day. On next day devotee break fast after sunrise. devotee break fast during prana time. After prana  time it is referred as seen act. On Ekadasi all type of grains and cereals are prohibited during Ekadasi fast.


There are many types of Ekadasi fast like with water, without water, with fruits. It is decided by devotee before fast day. The toughest Ekadosi fast is called as Nirjara fast, In this type, devotee should not take Water till prana time.
